Ha, ha. [ She cracks a grin as they walk inside. She links her hands behind her back now, glancing around, noting the sparse number of residents hanging around within the diner. ]
Here? [ She asks, indicating a table. There's enough choice for a place where it doesn't seem to matter at which you sit. ]
[ Snow settles herself in, too, smoothing down the front of her skirt. ]
Not exercising much patience these days, are you? [ It's a little wearied, maybe a touch chiding, but she understands. Snow sighs lightly, finally looking up at him, hesitating just a few more seconds before speaking. ]
There's always work to be done, but this isn't... well, I--
[ He's been straightforward, she might as well extend the same courtesy... ]
I've been thinking about everything, about... us, and this place. [ She makes a point of looking right at him, too, dark brows knit in concentration. ] It isn't Fabletown, it isn't anything we're used to, and... maybe that's a good thing. Maybe this is a chance to try.
[ To try something new. Like another Amnesty. ]
Not all at once, but... Bigby, I'd like to start seeing you.
[ There's a guilty sort of smile at the phrasing. ]
[Bigby is quiet for some time. He takes a long drag of his cigarette before he breathes into the air, pointing away from Snow. He's wanted to hear this for so long but it feels... strange in a way. Maybe it's the fact that she said this wasn't Fabletown. That being here made a difference.]
Wonderland can play tricks on you. It's done it to me so many times that I'm beginning to lose count. What I said to you before... I meant it, I did, but...
[Bigby sighs and rubs his face, looking old and tired.]
I don't want you because it's safe here. I don't want this to be some sort of a test. I just want you, Snow. I know I'm not what you expected. I'm not a prince. I'm not even human. But I love you and it doesn't take Wonderland to tell me that.
I never said anything about a prince and I never said anything about it being safe. [ Quickly enough, she puffs herself up, indignant. ] I only meant that it's reminded me of what's really-- it's cleared my head, and...
[ Again, she sighs, shaking her head. ]
You and I both know that that wasn't me, whatever... whatever happened in that room. Because it was very fast, and... sudden, and that isn't how I'd like to do this at all.
[ Her expression shifts from a little deflated to earnest, a slight frown replacing the grumpy pout. ]
This place is dangerous and frankly confusing, and I can't promise that it won't take some getting used to. But if you can meet me halfway, then I'd like to try.
[Bigby still couldn't decide if Snow was simply indulging him. All of her talk of getting 'used' to this place and giving it all a 'try' seemed as though she had to convince herself that Bigby was someone she could look to romantically. Still, she was the one who had asked him here and she was right - Snow wasn't the type of person to suddenly kiss him with such intensity.
Slow. Well, he'd been doing 'crawl' for the past six centuries. Slow would be an improvement.]
Ok, Snow. I've never actually 'dated' before so you'll have to show me what I'm supposed to do.
You act as if I have had experience with that kind of thing. [ She crosses her arms, looking vaguely amused. ] In fact, I can almost guarantee that you've had more interpersonal exchanges than I have.
[ She isn't even thinking of Wonderland, doesn't know about whoever he may have been involved with. She'd assumed in the past that there had been a number of people that he'd at least been physical with, and it isn't really with judgment that she makes the assumption; he is, after all, a primal and instinctive sort of person. Er, Fable.
She, on the other hand, had been woken up from a curse and promptly married. Not exactly courtship. ]
[While Bigby has been with others, back home and, surprisingly enough, in Wonderland, he still isn't very date savvy. The only experience he's had was with Charlie and all they did was talk over a smoke and a coffee. And then they had sex.
Was that how it worked?
Bigby wasn't so certain.]
So, is this the part of the date where we compare past experiences?
Yes, in fact, I do. [ She says, not... coolly, exactly, but with a subtle firmness. Snow crosses her ankles, glancing off into the room, and then, with a frown, back at Bigby. ]
Does someone wait on us, or should we...? [ She trails off, questioning expression shifting into a knowing smile. ]
I hope not. Let's talk about something else. Anything else.
[Her tone quickly tells him to get off that particular topic. Truth be told, Bigby didn't want to hear what old Prince Charming was like under the sheets. And, frankly, he didn't want to confess to Snow about his own tumbles in bed. This was a new beginning and bringing up old history didn't seem to fit.
Bigby waved to one of the waitresses and hailed them over, tapping out his cigarette as she approached.]
I'll have a coffee and a slice of pie. Any kind - just make it a large slice.
[He waited until Snow ordered before he leaned back against the booth, relaxing a bit as he reached into his pocket and pulled out another cigarette.]
So... I guess we shouldn't discuss work, then, either. I'm running out of topics, Snow. Talking isn't one of my strong points.
Just coffee. Thank you. [ The waitress smiles and withdraws and she turns back to Bigby, expression... even, but thoughtful. ]
Well-- [ sigh ] How is the Sheriff thing going? I know some people weren't as... receptive to it, but I don't think you should stop. As far as I can tell, this place is nearly as lawless as Fabletown, and I know that's saying something. Someone needs to keep these people from murder, or worse.
[ Cannibalism! Jesus, what kind of people did that? ]

no subject
[Bigby sits and immediately takes his pack of cigarettes from his pocket and taps one out, lighting it with a flick of his lighter.]
So, are you going to make me wait or will you tell me what's on your mind? You usually don't invite me out to dinner unless there's work to be done.

Um. Dating, then, or... you know.
